Misr for Industrial Silk and PSF

Misr Artificial Silk and Polyester Fibers Company is one of the subsidiaries of the Holding Company for Cotton, Spinning, Weaving and Clothing. The company was established under the name “ Misr Artificial Silk Company ” according to the royal decree issued on April 24, 1946, at the initiative of the Banque Misr with a group of companies and shareholders, with a capital of 1.5 million pounds, for the purpose of producing artificial silk. Then the President of the Republic issued Decision No. 119 of 1961 to nationalize the company partially and then completely by Law No. 72 of 1963 and to compensate shareholders. The company’s shares became fully 100% owned by the state.

The Misr Artificial Silk and Polyester Fibers Company is the first company producing synthetic fibers in Egypt and the Middle East. The company’s main headquarters is located in the city of Kafr El Dawwar, 23 km southeast of Alexandria. The company began its production of artificial silk to produce threads, fibers, and cellophane paper in 1948, using technology from the American Von Kohorn Company. In 1957, a nylon factory was established in cooperation with the German Zimmer Company to produce nylon yarns and fibres. Then, a synthetic fiber spinning factory was established in 1975 with equipment from the German company Textema. The company began its production of polyester fibers in 1981 with French technology from the Ron Paulanc company, using DMT as a primary raw material. A polyester yarn factory was established in 1983 in cooperation with the French company ARCT .

Then a decision was issued to divide the Misr Artificial Silk Company on July 20, 1998, so that the polyester fiber and yarn manufacturers would operate as an independent company under the name of the Misr Polyester Fiber and Yarn Company within the state’s plan to support the privatization program, and for the new company to begin developing the polyester fiber factory in 2006 to use PTA as a primary raw material with raising The production capacity reaches 44 thousand tons for the purpose of economic operation annually , using Chinese technology from the HQCEC company “through the Chinese government.” Then a decision was issued to join the two companies on January 17, 2008 under the name “ Misr Artificial Silk and Polyester Fibers Company ” to join efforts to complete the polyester fiber factory development project and for the project to begin production and be opened in May 2010.

Approval of the company’s bylaws in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 185 of 2020 and its executive regulations in the issue of the Egyptian Gazette No. 33 published on 9/2/2022, where the company’s purpose was amended to produce polyester fibers and threads only.
